Resolution
This problem can happen if a startup registry entry pointing to a Dell application is formatted incorrectly. For instance, in the above log, there are two references to Dell software (marked in red.) Follow these steps to fix the problem:
- Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
- Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run
- Double-click the entry named Dell QuickSet and add double quotes to the existing data:
C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe
becomes:
"C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe"
- Similarly, navigate to the following branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion\ Run
- Double-click the entry named DellSupport and add double quotes to the existing data:
C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe /startup
becomes
"C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe" /startup
- Close Regedit.exe
- Logoff, and login back to see the results.
