How to Fix Error 0x80073D0A in Microsoft Store

When you install apps in the Microsoft Store, the error code 0x80073D0A may appear.

App installation failed with error message: error 0x80073D0A: Failed to install package <package name> because the firewall service is not running. Ensure that the firewall service is enabled and started. (0x80073d0a)

0x80073D0A The package couldn’t be installed because the Windows Firewall service isn’t running. Enable the Windows Firewall service and try again.

If you try to apply the recommended Firewall settings via the Control Panel, error 0x80070422 occurs.

Windows Defender Firewall can’t change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070422.

Cause

The error 0x80073D0A occurs if the Windows Firewall is not starting correctly or is disabled.

Error code 0x80070422 (“ERROR_SERVICE_DISABLED”) means the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, start the Windows Defender Firewall and Base Filtering Engine services. You can’t do this via the Services MMC because the Startup type dropdown box will be grayed out. You need to enable these two services via the registry.



  1. Start Regedit.exe.
  2. Go to the following branch:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\mpssvc
  3. Double-click “Start” and set its data to 2.
  4. Go to the following branch:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BFE
  5. Double-click “Start” and set its data to 2.
  6. Exit Regedit.exe.
  7. Restart Windows so the changes take effect.
